Blame those gold foil disco suits that the Brits wore to the opening ceremonies. Blame the current obsession with the bright red of the Union Jack.

Whatever the reason, the celebs who are in London this week for the Olympics are reacting to the season's blinding fashions with a bit of counterprogramming,

Exhibit A: Nicole Kidman, who wore a dark navy Azzedine Alaia mini with black strappy Manolo Blahniks to an OMEGA House launch party.

The Emmy nominee for Hemingway & Gellhorn did display some sparkle—we were nearly blinded by a set of diamond chandelier earrings that were both totally unnecessary and impossible to ignore, plus, of course, an OMEGA watch.

Clearly Kidman wanted to be seen—from space—but we hear she played coy at the party, skittering up to a private bar and making sure that security kept out the riff-raff.

Maybe she just wanted to protect those zillion-dollar earrings. Or maybe she just wanted to protect her eyeballs from those gold disco suits.
